COSCAP focused on members’ development in 2016 working in collaboration with the Caribbean Development Bank in the implementation of the Business of Music seminar series (http://www.caribank.org/media-3/cdb-tv) which featured key experts in various aspects of the music industry. The Barbados Investment and Development Corporation also established a partnership as a spin off from the CDB project working with COSCAP to set up the Barbados Incubator for Music Entrepreneurship Initiative. This has been specifically designed to respond to the needs of local music industry participants and to ensure their competitiveness in the market.
In terms of its core activity of licensing the organisation is sensitive to the realities of the operating environment and to ensure continued growth has adopted policies which enable it to work with its clients. COSCAP is also very mindful of its responsibilities to its members and the importance of sound corporate governance, hosting with the cooperation of WIPO a governance training workshop for directors in late 2015 and to allow for repeated use, the development of a complete online training programme.
At its recently held annual meeting, a new board of directors was elected and it reflects a spectrum of skillsets which offer a unique perspective and direction, as well as invaluable input borne of experience having actively participated in the music and financial industries in addition to academia.
